Hurricane Harvey has hovered over the Greater Houston area for several days, bringing torrential rain and unprecedented flooding to many neighborhoods, including much of Montgomery County. The city of Willis, located north of Conroe, has received between 26-28 inches of rain so far, Willis City Manager Hector Forestier said. He said city employees worked quickly as the storm hit southeast Texas, removing debris from roadway sewage systems that were preventing proper drainage. Since the storm's heavy rainfall began on Friday, Forestier said the city has been able to avoid closing roads, aside from a temporary closure on the I-45 North feeder at Lincoln Ridge on Friday evening for several hours. Residents should be conscious of flood-prone areas, specifically the intersections of Martin Luther King Boulevard at Philpot Street and Hwy. 75 75 at FM 1097, Forestier said. Portions of Longstreet Road are closed as well. “We fared pretty well in this storm compared to other cities and areas in the county,” Forestier said. “Citizens of Willis should count their blessings.”
