From 2018-19, residential property values went up 10.2% in the city of Conroe, 9% in the city of Montgomery and 8.08% in Montgomery County, according to the Montgomery Central Appraisal District.
The MCAD is responsible for appraising properties at market values each January by collecting sales data of market properties and adjusting values, Chief Appraiser Tony Belinoski said in an email.
Montgomery County lowered property taxes from $0.4667 to $0.4475 per $100 valuation for FY 2019-20, and the city of Montgomery is not proposing a change to its $0.40 rate.
In Conroe, officials are considering raising the property taxes from $0.4175 to $0.4454 per $100 assessed value. If passed on Aug. 28, property taxes on a $300,000 home could result in a monthly increase of $6.97, but officials said the tax rate increase would be frozen for people who are over age 65, are disabled or who have homestead exemptions.
