Incumbent Will Metcalf, R-Conroe, and Democratic challenger Bobbie Clayton will face off in the Nov. 3 general election for Texas House District 16.
What you need to know
District 16 spans northern Montgomery County and includes Conroe and Montgomery, according to a map of the district.
Metcalf, who has represented the district since 2015, defeated Jon Bouche in the March Republican primary. Clayton ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, setting up the November contest.
Early voting will run from Oct. 19-30, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. Election Day is Nov. 3, and polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Montgomery County voters may cast ballots at any county early voting location. Election Day voting information will be available through the Montgomery County Elections website.

What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?
Ensure every Texas child has access to a high-quality education, teachers are fairly compensated and equipped to address disruptive behavior, and students are not burdened by unnecessary high-stakes testing.
How will you ensure your constituents receive the appropriate aid after natural disasters?
During disasters, my staff and I work on the ground with local officials and maintain direct contact with state emergency leadership to secure needed resources. From Hurricanes Harvey, Beryl, and Winter Storm Uri for example, we coordinated aid, share updates, and worked around the clock to serve our community.
How will you ensure Texans have enough water as the state continues to grow?
Over the past decade, Texas has committed more than $20 billion to water infrastructure, including flood mitigation, new water supplies, conservation, and repairs to aging systems. I was proud to coauthor and cosponsor many of these measures, which will help Texas prepare for future growth.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for District 16 in the next 5 years?
Property tax relief and predictability for homeowners and businesses, smart investment in critical infrastructure such as transportation and water, like my work last session securing $15 million in state funding for Conroe water projects, and protecting the conservative family values that make Montgomery County the best place to live.
