Conroe ISD selects site in Artavia for future school

Conroe ISD closed on land for a future elementary or intermediate school site within the master-planning community Artavia, developer Airia Development Company announced in a Feb. 15 news release.

The 15.75-acre site is the first of two school sites planned within the 2,200-acre community with a second school site reserved by Artavia on the lower portion of the property, according to the release.

"We are thrilled to have Conroe ISD as part of the Artavia community," Mark Hardy, senior vice president of development/acquisitions for Airia Development Company, said in the release. "This has been part of the Artavia master plan all along and marks the importance of preserving space for educational facilities, which contribute to the quality of life for residents and the community's longevity."

Artavia has about 1,400 existing residents and has sold 750 homes since it opened in 2019. The master-planned community anticipates totaling roughly 5,200 homes upon buildout, alongside 120 acres of mixed-use, commercial and retail space, according to the release.

Artavia is just one of the high-growth developments in the works within CISD where enrollment could reach 100,000 students in 10 years—up from 73,195 students in the current year, Community Impact reported. As such, the district has formed a bond planning committee in anticipation of a bond appearing on the November ballot.

The school site secured in Artavia is part of the bond package approved by voters in 2019, according to the release. The cost of the site was not available.

"We are excited about a future school in Artavia," CISD Superintendent Curtis Null said in the release. "Our rapidly growing district is a reflection of the quality of life and education in our community."

A construction date for the new school in Artavia has not yet been determined, according to the release.
