Fort Bend County residents will be asked on the Nov. 5 Election Day ballot to vote for or against an $82.9 million bond package for countywide flood projects.
Fort Bend County Commissioners Court unanimously approved during an Aug. 13 regular meeting a bond package that was originally set to designate funds to facilities projects, but
switched gears to flood control in early August.
"I don't want to rain on this parade, and I pride myself on being a team player," Precinct 2 Commissioner Grady Prestage said. "In this process, we were talking about facilities, and then we pivoted at the last minute to drainage and flood-control projects, and I, quite frankly, don't feel I had the appropriate time to develop the projects. I'm supporting this, but I'm not happy with it."
The bond is not expected to raise the Drainage District tax rate, said Taral Patel, Judge KP George's chief of staff.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers thanked Chief Drainage Engineer Mark Vogler, the drainage district, the county attorney's office and the Precinct 3 staff for getting the package together.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales and Precinct 4 Commissioner Ken DeMerchant served on the bond-planning committee.
