Leander City Council has cleared the way for a Honda dealership to come to Leander.
At a meeting Dec. 20, City Council voted unanimously to approve a concept plan for the dealership on a 37-acre parcel of land northeast of the intersection of Toll 183A and Hero Way. Council also approved rezoning the property to general commercial.
“It’s a catalyst to other things moving in,” Mayor Troy Hill said at the meeting. “You do have restaurants that want to move next to a dealership and you have other businesses that, once the restaurants are in, then they come. It’s a seed, and in my opinion, we need a seed.”
The proposed Honda dealership, operated by Penske Automotive Group, is projected to employ more than 100 associates at its inception and have an annual sales revenue of $51.4 million, according to a presentation Penske representatives gave to council members Nov. 1.
