Cedar Park City Council voted in favor of entering into an agreement with Williamson County to make improvements on County Road 272 at the Oct. 4 city council meeting.

CR 272 runs eastward from Ronald Reagan Boulevard and crosses Brushy Creek southward to connect to Whitestone Boulevard. Williamson County maintains a portion of the road that lies in the extraterritorial jurisdiction, while the city maintains the southern portion that is within the city limits.

In May 2015, the low water crossing of the road at Brushy Creek closed due to flooding. The crossing has remained closed due to sustained damage. Resident Sharon Krienke said during the meeting that she lives on CR 272 and a new crossing is needed.

“To us that bridge is extremely important,” Krienke said. “We only have one way in and one way out. We have trouble with firetrucks. It’s hard for them to get in from the north side. We need that bridge open.”

The estimated cost to design and construct a new crossing is about $800,000, according to city documents. Once executed, the city’s interlocal agreement with Williamson County will have the county pay $180,000 and the city pay $620,000. It will also have the city annex the remainder of CR 272.
