Here are 5 things to know this week if you live in Central Austin:
1. Austin Community College is holding a voter registration rally Tuesday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The rally gives the community, students, faculty and staff a chance to register to vote, learn more about what is needed to vote and hear from Bruce Elfant, the Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and voter registrar. ACC's Student Government Association will host a watch party of the U.S. Presidential debate on Monday starting at 8 p.m. The viewing will be held at ACC's Highland campus, 6101 Airport Blvd., Austin. SGA members also will be available to register voters at the event.
2. The first weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival begins this Friday. Here's what you need to know if you're staying in the city throughout the festival weekends.
3. On Saturday, the city of Austin will kick off a neighborhood planning process for North Shoal Creek. The event takes place 9 a.m.-noon at Pillow Elementary School, 3025 Crosscreek Drive, Austin. The plan will guide future development in the approximately 1-square-mile area bounded by Burnet Road to the east, Anderson Lane to the south, MoPac to the west and U.S. 183 to the north—in which 3,700 residents live. 4. Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo and Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daughtery will be among the speakers Thursday at a forum on the creation of a sobriety center at the current Travis County Medical Examiner's Office, 1213 Sabine St., Austin. The Downtown Austin Alliance hosts the event. Those wishing to attend the forum can RSVP here. Commissioners on Tuesday voted to create a local government corporation to operate the shared city and county facility.
