A new Honest Mary’s location opened downtown on July 14, celebrating with bowls, prizes and donations.

Honest Mary’s kicked off the grand opening celebration with an event on July 14 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. featuring free bowls for visitors.
The first 100 guests could also draw for a chance to win free Honest Mary’s for a year. Additionally, Honest Mary’s donated $1 per bowl to Mobile Loaves & Fishes July 14-19.
On the menu
The menu is stocked with signature and customizable bowls, sipping broths and snacks. Signature bowls include the Aloha Poke, prepared with hand-line caught poke, rice, vegetables and a sesame vinaigrette. For a build-your-own bowl, patrons can choose from a protein base, two market sides, two toppings and a sauce.
What’s special about it?
The restaurant features dishes made without any artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or additives, according to its website. The menu is 82% free of industrial seed oils and only uses natural sweeteners. Honest Mary’s also uses hormone-free meat and wild-caught tuna, as opposed to farmed tuna.
The context
Nelson Monteith, Honest Mary’s CEO, founded the company with his wife, Mary Monteith, in 2017. The pair opened the first location in the Arboretum neighborhood in 2017. The brand now has five locations across Austin, Cedar Park and Houston.
Prior to starting the brand, Monteith worked for a company located in the Seaholm Power Plant and remembered wishing there was a place like Honest Mary’s close by, according to a news release.
“Downtown Austin has been on our radar for a long time,” said COO Andrew Wiseheart. “Seaholm is exactly the kind of neighborhood that aligns with everything Honest Mary’s stands for: people who care about how they eat and how they live.”
