The western section of Zilker Park will reopen on Oct. 31, following two weekends of ACL Music Festival and the city’s annual maintenance period, according to a news release from the city of Austin.
The rest of Zilker’s Great Lawn will be transformed into the city’s annual Trail of Lights, which is open Dec. 10-23.
What we know
Earlier this month, Zilker Park experienced flooding during weekend one of Austin City Limits Music Festival. ACL Fest officials sent a message out to attendees on Oct. 3 notifying people that areas of the park remained muddy, causing a delayed start time to the festival.
After the festival concluded on Oct. 11, Austin Parks and Recreation Turf and Zilker Maintenance teams collaborated with C3 Presents and their contractors to remedy the Great Lawn. The recovery tasks, according to city officials, include:
Debris removal
Irrigation repairs
Lawn aeration
Rye seed distribution
Selective watering for turf recovery
Tilling and screening of volleyball courts
Hydroseeding of south areas of Barton Springs Road.
More details
After its opening on Oct. 31, the western Great Lawn will stay open throughout the holiday season, according to the release. The outdoor volleyball courts will be open from Oct. 31-Nov. 16. Lou Neff Road will remain closed throughout the holiday season.

Parking for Zilker Park is available at the Stratford Drive Parking Lot, according to the release.
