The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has suspended the permits of 17 bars across Texas, including four on Austin’s Sixth Street, for allegedly not adhering to Gov. Greg Abbott’s mandates intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The TABC said in a media release that after conducting undercover operations over the weekend, agents found most Texas bars were following requirements to limit indoor capacity—50% for bars and 75% for restaurants—and keep a 6-foot distance between customers.
However, the violators include four bars in Austin’s Sixth Street bar district, according to the TABC.
On June 22, the TABC announced it had suspended the alcohol permit for Soho Lounge, located at 217 E. Sixth St., just west of I-35. Over the weekend, the TABC announced the suspension of three bars in the West Sixth Street district—UnBARlievable, Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden and Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot Icehouse.
