Representatives from sporting goods store Scheels cut the ribbon on the company’s newest store in Cedar Park alongside local government and business leaders Aug. 25. The store will open to the public Aug. 29.

Scheels is an employee-owned store that sells a wide variety of sports and outdoor equipment, clothing and more.
The Cedar Park location is the second in Texas and one of the largest retail spaces in the state, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
In addition to shopping, visitors to the Cedar Park Scheels can ride a 65-foot indoor Ferris wheel, view roughly 600 fish in a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, and visit a candy shop and a cafe.
What’s next
Scheels leaders expect some shoppers to camp out overnight ahead of the Aug. 29 opening. The first 50 people in line will receive “exclusive swag” and pizza. A celebration will begin at 7 a.m. featuring a live DJ, marching band performances, gift card giveaways, a skydiver performance and more, according to the company’s website. Doors open at 9:30 a.m.

Store manager Lucas Hachmeister said Scheels chose to build in Cedar because of its “great community.”
“It’s got a great overall sense of support and [it’s] a great place to raise a family,” Hachmeister said. “The city’s been fantastic. They’ve been nothing but great to work with.”
Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin described the store as a boost to the city’s economy and an important gathering place for the local community.
“Throughout these past decades, Cedar Park has always dreamed of being a place where you can live and work and play, raise your family, build your business, where you can thrive in every way imaginable, no matter who you are or where you're from or what your background is,” Penniman-Morin said. “And so this is a big step for our city in fulfilling that dream.”
Some context
Scheels is one of the anchors of the new 117-acre CedarView development, along with NFM, formerly Nebraska Furniture Mart, which is set to open next year. The development will also be home to a Marriott hotel and convention center, restaurants, apartments and more retail space.
City leaders have touted the development as a major economic development project for the area. City finance officials said in discussions of the city’s budget earlier this month that the sales tax money generated by the CedarView development will help the city maintain its services in the face of inflation and rising costs.
