Once the holidays are over, the city of Georgetown and Williamson County will be offering tree-recycling services starting Dec. 26.
The city of Georgetown is encouraging residents to recycle trees, boxes and wrapping paper to reduce material going to the landfill, according to a news release. Local are asking to remove tree stands, garland, ornament and lights. Artificial trees are not allowed.
For curbside pickup, Texas Disposal System customers in the city limits can place their trees—seven feet in length or less—on the curb for collection on regularly-scheduled yard trimmings pickup day. Longer trees should be cut into sections.
For boxes and wrapping paper, items that do not fit in recycling carts can be placed in a larger box next to the cart. Ribbons and bows are not recyclable. Cellophane wrap and plastic bags can be recycled if they are in a yellow bag-the-bag recycling bag, which are available at the Georgetown Municipal Complex, 300 Industrial Ave. Ste. 1; Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. 8th St.; Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.; Sun City Social Center monitors desk, 2 Texas Drive; and the collection station, 250 W.L. Walden Road.
