City of Cedar Park opens long-awaited Lakeline Park Phase 1 to public

After many years of planning and preparation, the city of Cedar Park held a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 24 to celebrate the opening of Lakeline Park Phase 1.

“From the very beginning of our community’s origin, parks, enjoying the outdoors ... has been what we’ve been about, and so, I think it’s so fitting that we’ve invested the money over the years with various councils and various mayors and various city staffers in improving our city parks,” Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin said. “And of course, [Lakeline Park], I think, is now our crown jewel.”

Located at 1510 Alexis Drive, Cedar Park, the 100-acre park includes a 3,000-square-foot multipurpose pavilion; a universally-designed playground; a kayak and canoe launch and rental; a fishing pier; 4 miles of extra-wide concrete trails, which includes a 2.5 mile loop; 10 acres of athletic fields; a large lawn; and 400 parking spaces with an overflow of 200 additional spaces.

Lakeline Park Phase 1 was approved by voters in the 2015 general obligation bond program. In 2017, the city purchased a 72-acre tract from a local family, which allowed the park’s total space total space to reach 200 acres and include the lake.

Costing $10.3 million, Phase 1 was funded by the 2015 general obligation bond funds along with multiple other city funding sources. It was designed by Halff Associates and constructed by JKB Construction Company, according to the city.

Design work on Phase 2 of the Lakeline Park project—which was approved by voters in the 2022 general obligation bond program—is included in the city’s fiscal year 2022-23 budget. Phase 2 will add an 100 completed acres to the park.

Construction on Phase 2 is projected to begin some time in 2024, with an anticipated opening in 2025.

Once Lakeline Park is fully built out, it will be considered as Cedar Park’s largest park at 200 total acres, according to the city.
