Leander ISD cancels first 2 class days for high schoolers after technical issue

Leander ISD high school students will begin virtual school Aug. 17 after a technology issue canceled their first two days of school.

Elementary and middle school students are unaffected by the issue and began virtual learning Aug. 13 as scheduled, according to an Aug. 12 district release.

The issue was "with the web content filtering tool that allows students to connect to the internet on their district-provided laptop," according to the release. LISD officials said they learned of the issue late Aug. 12 after a district vendor learned another school district lost functionality earlier this week.

Additional servers will be installed Aug. 14 and over the weekend so high school virtual learning may begin Aug. 17.

Parents will be notified when the technology issue is resolved, according to a district spokesperson.

High school principals will work with the district to make a decision on lost instructional time. A district spokesperson said additional school days may not be needed due to extra minutes in the school calendar.
