Samsung Highway Segment 2 construction begins in Williamson County

Williamson County broke ground on Segment 2 of Samsung Highway in Taylor on June 2.

Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles was in attendance at the June 2 groundbreaking ceremony along with U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, Texas House Rep. Caroline Harris, Taylor Mayor Brandt Rydell and Samsung representatives.

“In Williamson County, we are always planning to make sure we have the right roads in the right place to handle our growth,” Boles said in a press release.

Overall, the Samsung Highway project involves the construction of a four-lane roadway, connecting FM 3349 and FM 973, with the goal of lessening curves on CR 404 and increasing safety.

The new roadway runs adjacent to Samsung's $17 billion semiconductor facility that is under construction, from which the road's name is derived.

The new work beginning on Segment 2 will connect FM 3349 to CR 404 and is expected to be completed in summer 2024. Funding for the newest $5.13 million segment was approved by voters in the 2019 Williamson County Road Bond Program.

Construction for Segment 1, which will connect CR 404 to FM 973, is underway and expected to reach completion in the fall.
