More closures, traffic pattern changes anticipated for US 183 North in 2024

The US 183 North Mobility Project will add two express toll lanes on the interior of the road alongside one additional nontolled lane, creating a total of four nontolled lanes and two tolled lanes in each direction.

Alongside improvements to the road, the project is also increasing pedestrian connectivity with over 19,000 feet of sidewalk improvements along the corridor, according to the Mobility Authority.

Looking back

In 2023:

• 100% of concrete substructure work, which creates a foundation for the future road widening improvements, was completed in the center median.
• 50% of outside concrete substructure widening was completed between McNeil Road and Great Hills Trail.
• 75% of interior widening on concrete paving was completed from Lakeline Mall Drive to MoPac.
• 12,000 feet of sidewalks was completed.

Looking ahead

In 2024, drivers can expect:

• Work on the fourth general purpose lane of the main roadway
• Construction on outside bridges that connect to US 183
• Work on inside widening for bridges at Oak Knoll, Great Hills Trail, RM 620 and Braker Lane
• U-turn closures and periodic closures of MoPac and US 183
• Work on widening lanes and building retaining walls
• Completion of 7,200 feet of sidewalks

“While the specific wall work that follows through 2024 will mostly take place at night, it will require some continuous lane closures to allow a total of 14 crews to work in the designated areas for a number of months on these retaining walls,” Deal said during the presentation.
