Ultimately, the project will connect RM 1431, or Whitestone Boulevard, to the New Hope Drive extension project, Capital Projects Manager Chris Brickey said.

The following is included in the scope of the Toro Grande Boulevard roadway improvement project:

• A new four-lane corridor stretching from Parmer Lane to New Hope Drive
• A bridge structure as well as a connection to the Brushy Creek North Fork Trail
• Intersection and signal improvements
• Turn lanes
• Sidewalk and shared-use path
• Bike lanes
• Street lighting and illumination

“[It’s been] a long time coming, so I’m excited,” Council Member Anne Duffy said at the meeting.

Council also approved an adjustment on the city’s contract with Cash Construction Company for the Anderson Mill Road Phase 2 project.

The original contract was adjusted to add the cost of a 2-inch asphalt mill and overlay between Gaspar Bend and Zeppelin Drive as well as specified sections along the quarry, Brickey said. He said this addition will help toward a consistent riding surface on the roadway.

Costing $555,100, this adjustment does not require additional funding, Brickey said, and it is covered under the initial project budget.

“I’m glad we’re doing this; the existing road project along there is looking really good,” Council Member Mel Kirkland said.

The Anderson Mill Road Phase 2 project involves widening the remaining two-lane sections to four lanes between Cypress Creek Road and Whitestone Boulevard as well as a new sidewalk, signal modifications and signage.

Brickey said the project is on schedule for December completion.
