Bryan-College Station will start seeing a series of multiple-step closures on “Big 6” highway construction during the week of Aug. 10, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
'Big 6' is a long-term TxDOT project along State Hwy. 6 through Bryan and College Station, aimed at helping the cities deal with growing traffic.
What you need to know
- Aug. 10: Full closure of the southbound mainlane from Old Reliance Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Street to Briarcrest Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- The mainlanes will be closed to install a concrete bridge placement between University Drive and Harvey Mitchell Parkway with a two-step traffic pattern change.
- The southbound mainlane left lane will be closed from Briarcrest to University drives and the southbound mainlanes will be fully closed between University Drive and Harvey Mitchell Parkway, as well as the southbound mainlane from Old Reliance Road/Martin Luther King Jr. Street to Briarcrest Drive.
- The southbound frontage road right-turn lane at the Texas Avenue and Deacon Drive intersection will also be closed to install an underground structure from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Aug. 11-12: Full closure of the northbound mainlanes from Southwest Parkway to Briarcrest Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
- The lanes will be closed for paving operations and concrete bridge placement at Briarcrest Drive and Old Reliance Road/Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
- Paving operations will take place Aug, 11 and the bridge placement will take place Aug 12.
- Aug. 13: Full closure of the Southbound mainlanes from Briarcrest Drive to Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- All traffic will exit on University Drive and reenter north of Southwest Parkway.
- The northbound Texas Avenue exit ramp will also be closed for paving operations.
- Aug 14-16: Full closure of the northbound Texas Avenue exit ramp, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
- The ramp will be closed for paving operations, with traffic being redirected to turn left on Southwest Parkway.
