College Station City Council will vote on a potential two-cent property tax increase for 2027 during the upcoming Aug. 27 meeting.
What you need to know
According to the city of College Station, the current tax rate is $0.511872 per $100 valuation. If the new rate is approved, it would increase to $0.530254 per $100 valuation, with the city defining the two portions as:
- $0.202646 per $100 for debt service obligations
- $0.327608 per $100 for operations and maintenance obligations
The city’s adjusted no-new-revenue tax rate would be $0.506934 per $100 valuation.
As previously reported by Community Impact, changing property values and the addition of new taxable property have contributed to the increase. According to the city Finance Director Mary Ellen Leonard, not increasing taxes could impact city projects and require changes made to the proposed 2026-27 budget.
Also on the agenda
The council will also review the current proposed budget before the tax increase proposal. The city said property taxes will account for 37% of the $576 million budget.
The council will have a public discussion for three separate ordinances, including:
- Two plots of 106 and 92.88 acres for business and commercial use on Midtown Drive and Corporate Parkway.
- 9.75 acres for a proposed townhome project off of Harvey and Boonville Road.
The consent agenda will have approvals for city construction, lease, partnerships and general services contracts.
