In an email statement to Community Impact, Kyle Kacal, who won the Republican primary for Brazos County judge on March 3, said he appreciated the voters' support.
"Honored at the support Brazos County citizens put in me to serve as their county judge," Kacal said. "Looking forward to get to work for them."
Kacal obtained more than 62% of the vote in the Republican primary race for Brazos County judge against Mike Southerland, according to unofficial results from the county. All results are unofficial until canvassed at a later date.
Currently, no Democrat has filed to run for Brazos County judge, according to the Texas Secretary of State's website.

Kyle Kacal has won the Republican primary for Brazos County Judge, according to unofficial election results from the county.
With all 88 precincts reporting, Kacal obtained 10,404 votes, or 62.12% of the vote. Mike Southerland came in with 6,343 votes, or 37.88% of the vote, unofficial results show.
The results mean Kacal will represent the party in November.

Some of the other races across the county on March 3 include:
District clerk
- Wayland Van Nest with 7,162 votes, or 44.18%
- Gabriel Garcia with 5,175 votes, or 31.92%
- Rudy Schultz with 3,873 votes, or 23.89%
Given that no candidate received the majority needed, Van Nest and Garcia are headed to a runoff on May 26 if results hold.
Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3
- Kim Russell with 2,430 votes, or 74.38%
- Steven "Bullet Head" Emert with 644 votes, or 19.71%
- Wajih "Joe" Ajib with 193 votes, or 5.91%
Republican County Chair- Russell Ford with 8,308 votes, or 57.17%
- Silas Garrett with 6,223 votes, or 42.83%
The Democratic Party chair for Brazos County was not competitive. Since both positions are party positions, there won't be another race in November.

Initial results for the March 3 primary election show Kyle Kacal is in the lead for the Republican primary race for Brazos County judge with 8,426, or 63% of the vote, and Mike Southerland received 5,014, or 37% of votes cast. All officials are unofficial until canvassed.
The context
Last fall, Judge Duane Peters announced he would not seek reelection for his position, according to a Sept. 29 news release from Brazos County.
The winner of the Republican primary will be unopposed in the Nov. 5 general election as no candidate has filed for the Democratic primary, according to the secretary of state website.
What else?
The race for Brazos County Republican chair has current chair Russell Ford leading Silas Garrett with 6,698 votes, or 57.77%, to Garrett's 4,896 votes, or 42.23%, unofficial results show.
The Brazos County Democratic chair does not have a contested election.
Since both are only party positions, there won't be a follow-up election in November.
