College Station Mayor John Nichols announced the sale of a portion of midtown land, making way for a 100,000 square-foot Bass Pro Shops location. The announcement kicked off the Aug. 27 College Station City Council meeting.
What Bass Pro offers
Bass Pro Shops sells a variety of outdoor goods, including fishing equipment, firearms, boats and clothing items and accessories. The retailer is also known for having taxidermy and fish tanks in the stores, where visitors can see freshwater fish swimming in real time.
Certain Bass Pro locations also have restaurants and entertainment.
What's new?
According to a news release, College Station would be the 20th Texas location for the outdoor retailer. Founder Johnny Morris said the state has been special for the company and that opening a College Station location is exciting.
“This is a community with a deep appreciation for the outdoors and we look forward to helping families and friends enjoy everything that makes this part of Texas so special,” Morris said in the release.
The midtown location is set to have a unique design with a tribute to the sporting heritage of the Brazos Valley and Texas’ outdoor traditions.
Nichols praised the addition and said it was “exceptionally good news" to attract "high quality" businesses to College Station.

With the 14-acre addition of Bass Pro Shops, Midtown Business Park will see a variety of mixed-use space around the planned baseball and softball complex. As previously reported by Community Impact, the complex is set to be a "massive economic engine” for the city and attract millions in revenue.
The construction of the new location is scheduled to take a few years to complete and is expected to be accompanied by an unannounced slate of other retailers in the area. The city also sold 14 acres to the Corinth Group, which will include retail, restaurants, and a plaza area for gatherings and events, according to the city.
