Five local properties in Houston earned a Michelin Key this year, up from four nominations in 2025.
What is it?
A Michelin Key is a distinction awarded by the Michelin Guide to "exceptional" hotels, functioning as the hotel equivalent of a Michelin Star for restaurants, according to the Michelin Guide website.
Per the criteria manual, inspectors select a hotel for the Michelin Key based on five universal criteria, including:
Excellence in architecture and interior design
Quality and consistency of service
Overall personality and character
Value for the price
Significant contribution to the neighborhood or setting
Hotels are not selected based on price, per the website. A hotel can receive one, two or three keys based on how it performs in each category.
The results
In 2026, five properties in the Houston area were given at least one Michelin Key, including: The Post Oak Hotel, Hotel Zaza Memorial City, Hotel Zaza Museum District, Hotel Saint Augustine and Hotel Daphne.
Of the five hotels, three are located in the inner loop, with The Post Oak Hotel located just outside Loop 610 in Uptown.
The Post Oak Hotel is the only Texas Forbes Five-Star Hotel and Spa, according to the hotel's website. The property offers extensive conference space, designer fashion, dining and amenities inside a 700,000-square-foot tower.
Hotel ZaZa Museum District is a luxury boutique hotel located near the Museum District and Texas Medical Center that features individually decorated rooms, a full-service spa and an outdoor pool and courtyard.
Hotel Saint Augustine, a new addition to Montrose, opened in 2024 by the Bunkhouse Hotel Group and showcases an all-day lobby lounge and listening room. The design drew inspiration from surroundings such as the Menil.
Hotel Daphne opened in the Heights in late 2025 as a 49-room boutique hotel that highlights the spirit of the community and Texas region, per prior reporting. The European-inspired escape offers a jewel-box library, an all-day restaurant and a ground-floor bar and restaurant.
Representatives from the Houston First Corporation said the recognition of these five hotels by the Michelin Guide reinforces the city's reputation as a "premier destination and a global leader in hospitality."
