Nearly 90,000 ballots cast in first week of early voting for Galveston County

Galveston County has had more than 88,000 ballots cast during the first week of early voting, according to data from the county.

By the numbers

Prior to the early voting period, the county received around 2,600 mail-in votes, according to county data. In each of the first seven days of the 12-day early voting period, which runs from Oct. 21-Nov. 1, the county received between 164 and 339 mail-in ballots each day.

For in-person voting, the county started out the early day period with five straight days of over 11,500 voters, according to county data. The highest turnout day was the first day, on Oct. 21, when the county saw more than 17,000 people vote.

During the weekend from Oct. 26-27, the turnout dipped, totaling around 13,700 votes across both days, data shows.

What’s next?

Election Day is Nov. 5, but voters can cast their ballots early from through Nov. 1. Polls are open in Galveston County from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, according to Brazoria County’s website.
