A Sports Illustrated Resort is coming to Texas City through a partnership between two hotel and resort companies.

The Houston-based Lagoon Development Company and Sports Hospitality Ventures LLC will come together to bring Texas' first Sports Illustrated Resort to the Lago Mar mixed-use development near Galveston.
A groundbreaking is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024, with construction to kick off promptly afterward.
According to a Jan. 30 news release, the anticipated resort will stand nine stories tall and feature a total of 200 rooms. Features will include a range of floor plans, a 12-acre lagoon and a Stadium Sports Grill. Another amenity, the Sports Illustrated Beach Club, will have beachside cabanas and a swim-up island bar.
A complete address will be available after groundbreaking, according to the release.
