Following a Texas Department of Transportation recommendation, SH 304 may see a reduction from 60 mph to 50 mph along the 0.67-mile stretch of road within Bastrop city limits. The change follows a TxDOT traffic study along the roadway.

The speed limit reduction was approved at a Bastrop City Council meeting May 28. The change awaits a second reading at the following City Council meeting June 11.
The speed limit reduction follows a similar change along the city's portion of FM 969, reducing the speed from 65 mph to 60 mph.
