Bastrop County commissioners approved new no-through truck restrictions on two roads and added four-way stops at two intersections during a recent meeting, citing safety and visibility concerns.

Commissioners unanimously approved a no-through truck ordinance for portions of Kaanapali Lane and Blue Flame Road after recommendations from county engineering staff.
The restrictions apply to:
County engineer Tan-Li Sun said Conafly Lane is “narrow with no paved shoulders” and has “drastic vertical roadway geometry” that limits drivers’ stopping sight distance.
Sun also said alternative truck routes are available using SH 71 connections.
For Blue Flame Road, Sun said congestion at FM 1209 and SH 71 during peak traffic hours contributes to safety concerns. He also cited the road’s narrow width and a “very drastic 90-degree blind horizontal curve.”
“The large trucks have wide turning radii, and this blind curve creates unsafe driving conditions,” Sun said.

According to Sun, the Panorama Bay Avenue and Alonzo Drive intersection was already functioning as a four-way stop, but the condition had not been formally adopted by the court.
At Pepper Parkway and Lucky Avenue, Sun said that fence lines obstruct visibility at the intersection and that traffic volumes are higher due to subdivision connectivity.
Sun also noted that vehicles parked along the curb reduce sight distance.
Commissioners declined to add a four-way stop at Pony Express Drive and Campfire Way.
Instead, county staff adjusted signage and added intersection-ahead warning signs while continuing to monitor traffic flow at the intersection.
