Bastrop County plans $219M in upgrades for buildings, IT and more
Bastrop County adopted its Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2026-31 on Jan. 29 to keep pace with a growing population.

The multiyear plan identifies immediate, short-term and long-term needs—$219 million in projects that include building and expansion, information technology upgrades, and county roads and bridges improvements, according to county documents.
“The [CIP] represents the county’s commitment to invest in our infrastructure while managing growth,” Jennifer Pacheco, county auditor, said in an email to the Bastrop County Commissioners Court. “A [collaborative] effort will ensure that capital funding will be allocated appropriately and implemented on projects that will provide the greatest benefit to the county.”

With the CIP approved, the Bastrop County Commissioners Court authorized a notice of intent to issue certificates of obligation during a Feb. 9 meeting—an agenda item that outlines $64 million in projects that will be funded in the first year of the plan, according to county documents.

Bastrop police to apply for $20K grant for wellness training
The Bastrop Police Department is seeking $20,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice to finance mental and physical wellness training and programs for its officers throughout the year.
Committee to help select vendor for courthouse repairs
A request for proposal committee will help review and score 11 vendor submissions for roof repairs to the Bastrop County Courthouse. The roof repairs will be paid for with Capital Improvement Plan funds and certificates of obligation, according to county documents.

Bastrop County is planning $4.5 million in projects that would add a new radio tower in the western portion of the county and replace handheld and in-car radios for the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Department. County officials said the upgrades are needed to keep up with the growing population.
Bastrop amends scope of $3.2M river stabilization project
A $3.2 million project to stabilize the riverbank along the Colorado River in Bastrop is moving forward after city officials amended the scope of work.

Although the project initially planned to tackle 1,200 linear feet near the Old Iron Bridge, the city of Bastrop reconfigured the scope of the project following coordination with Halff Associates and the Texas General Land Office, according to city documents.
Now, 600 linear feet near the Old Iron Bridge and 600 linear feet further east of Ferry Park will be addressed, according to city documents.
“This would effectively stabilize two portions of the Colorado Riverbank near the bridge, Fisherman’s Park and Ferry Park,” Bastrop Assistant Finance Director Laura Allen said in a staff report.
