Bastrop City Council will consider a request from staff at a May 26 meeting to reallocate $50,000 after equipment was reportedly stolen from Fairview Cemetery.
The why
City documents indicate the money would be used to install or upgrade security at Fairview Cemetery, replace stolen equipment from the cemetery and purchase additional Parks Department equipment.
Funding the work
The proposed amendment to the city’s fiscal year 2025-26 budget would move unused salary savings from the Bastrop Fire Department to the Parks Department’s capital equipment budget.
The $50,000 reallocation stems from operational salary savings tied to vacant Fire Department positions, according to city documents.
