Candidates campaigning to win seats on Katy City Council and the Katy ISD school board May 6 have decorated the town with colorful signs seeking support. In this month’s edition, we have compiled a guide on Page 25 documenting local candidates’ top priorities in office. We have also included Q&As and a list of polling locations where you can cast your vote.

During an election, constituents may be curious about a candidate’s voting record. As it happens, all voting records are public information and can be requested through a county’s election office. While voting records will not show who or what a person voted for—that has always been private—it will show whether a person voted in an election.

For the second consecutive year more than a dozen Katy-area first responders and emergency service providers, including the Katy ISD Police Department and Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48, will team up to bring safety awareness to the public.

As part of the afternoon’s activities, live car fires will be extinguished and car extraction demonstrations will give visitors a behind-the-scenes look into emergency services, according to organizers.

The event will take place at the north parking lot of Katy Mills, 5000 Katy Mills Circle, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Organizers estimate 2,500 people attended last spring’s inaugural event.
