To date in 2018, Central Texans could have voted in up to three elections with more to come. The largest election so far was the March 6 primary election that determined which candidates will run in the Nov. 6 general election. Texas also permits districts to have a runoff election that occurs when no candidate in a race receives more than 50 percent of the vote. The top two vote-getters in each race advance to a runoff. The March primary runoff election was May 22.

Texas also has local elections that were held May 5. Pflugerville ISD still holds its school board election during the local election date, but it is not a district that has opted to hold runoff elections.

For Northwest Austin residents, the next opportunity to vote is Nov. 6 in the general election, but there could be a chance for a runoff election with several candidates running for Austin mayor. Austin and Round Rock ISDs also are hosting their school board elections in November, and the city of Austin is discussing a bond focused on affordable housing, parks and infrastructure for the November ballot.
