According to unofficial early voting results Nov. 5, Bee Cave's local sales and use tax of one-eighth of 1 percent will continue.

Early voting reports show 127 votes, or 86.39 percent, for the ordinance and 20 votes, or 13.61 percent, opposed.

On July 9, Bee Cave City Council approved Ordinance 153 calling for a special election Nov. 5 to reauthorize the local sales and use tax to be used for road maintenance of municipal streets. The tax is voted upon every four years according to state law.

However, if the measure should fail, the city would no longer collect the tax for road maintenance purposes as allowed by state law, Bee Cave City Attorney Patty Akers said. The city sales tax would then fall below the maximum allowable rate, and the available one-eighth of 1 percent would therefore be available for appropriation by other entities with jurisdiction to collect sales tax within the city, she said.
