Transportation Updates

1. Marketplace Avenue extension


Construction on the Marketplace Avenue extension, which will connect the road from its current end at City Lights Drive to Burleson Street, began Sept. 8. A ground breaking was held in early October.

2. Main Street turn lane


The city of Buda is adding a right-turn lane from Main Street to FM 967. The lane will allow three cars to queue and is aimed at keeping traffic moving through the area. The project is included in the city’s fiscal year 2015-16 capital improvements plan.

3. Post Road bridge replacement


Hays County is working to replace the Post Road bridge over the Blanco River in San Marcos. A temporary replacement bridge will be built to bridge the gap until a permanent replacement is built. Officials are also considering long-term solutions including relocating the bridge farther upstream on the river.

4. Downtown drainage construction


San Marcos is planning work to address flooding in some parts of downtown. The work includes adding floodwater inlets to areas along University Drive and Guadalupe Street. University between LBJ Drive and Guadalupe will be closed for about 30 days during the construction.

5. FM 150 improvements


Bicycle lanes and sidewalks will be added to the 0.75-mile-long portion of FM 150 from Center Street to Hawthorn Drive. The city of Kyle received bids on the project earlier this year but in late summer decided to rebid it in hopes of finding a lower cost.
