Juneteenth events, Father’s Day celebrations and fundraisers are taking place all over Southwest Austin this weekend. Here are a few things you should know:
Friday, June 16
Travis County
The county will host its 27
th annual Juneteenth Celebration. The day will start with an indoor ceremony in the Travis County Commissioners Courtroom by honoring the county's black elected officials. The celebration will then move to the underside of the parking garage on the northeast corner of Eighth and Lavaca streets. A DJ will be playing throughout the afternoon. The event includes family-friendly activities along with food, dancing and the singing of the Black National Anthem. Free.

Sat., June 17
Central Texas Juneteenth 2K, Parade & Celebration
Juneteenth, also known as "Freedom Day" or "Emancipation Day," is the oldest-known African-American celebration commemorating the end of slavery. This annual event features a 2K walk/run, parade floats and entertainment and celebration at Rosewood Park. The parade and 2K begin at MLK Boulevard and Comal Street and end at New York Avenue and Rosewood Park. Free.

Summer BBQ
Elan South Park Meadow is hosting a summer barbecue for families and possible prospects who may be interested in touring the community. The menu includes ribs, hot dogs, hamburgers and desserts. The event includes live music. Guests are welcome to tour the community and learn about other programs the community offers. Only 75 spots are available. Guests are encouraged to RSVP.

Nonprofit organization Flip Flop to the World is hosting a kickoff party for its summer campaign on Saturday.[/caption]
Flip Flop to the World Kick Off Party
Flip Flop to the World, a nonprofit organization that provides shoes to the less fortunate throughout the world, will host its summer kickoff campaign and ambassador crowning. Attendees are encouraged to bring flip-flops for the shoe collection. Monetary donations will also be accepted on-site. The event will also feature food, games and prizes. This year’s campaign will end Aug. 31. All shoe donations will benefit Mexico. Free.

Boarding for the boat will begin at 1:30 p.m. Uncle Billy’s will provide canned and keg beer as well as brisket sliders, pulled pork tacos and sides. The event also features live music. Riders are also welcome to bring their own beer. $40/person.

Father’s Day at Austin Aquarium
Dads get in free to the Austin Aquarium on Father’s Day. Children can attend and make a custom clown fish card for their dad. Free (dads and children younger than age 2), $10.95 (children ages 2-11), $15.95 (adults).
