The North Hays Fire Department confirmed that this morning's gas leak has been contained and the shelter in place order has been lifted for area residents.

Residents ordered to shelter in place following a gas leak near a Dripping Springs subdivision

Residents of a Dripping Springs subdivision are being instructed to shelter in place following a gas leak at the 1600 block of E. Hwy. 290, Dripping Springs.

According to a news release from Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler, the leak was caused when a contractor punctured a major gas line nearby. Some residents of a subdivision on Hays Country Acres Drive initially received a Code Red notification from the sheriff's office to evacuate the area, however, the North Hays County Fire Department now recommends residents remain in their homes unless told to evacuate by a firefighter or a Hays County deputy.

Lt. Dennis Gutierrez of the Hays County Sheriff's Department confirmed the Pedernales Electric Cooperative has shut down several grids of electricity in the affected area, causing some residents and businesses along Hwy. 290 to lose power. Traffic has also been halted at E. Hwy. 290 and Hays Country Acres Road and W. Hwy. 290 and Drifting Wind Run.

There is no estimate at this time of when the leak will be resolved, Gutierrez said.
