Updated June 1 at 1:50 p.m.:
Due to forecasted rain on June 3 and 4, TxDOT has postponed the I-35 mainlane closures at the Slaughter Creek overpass to the nights of June 10 and 11, from 11 p.m.-10 a.m. each night.
Original story:
Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation will close the I-35 main lanes at the Slaughter Creek overpass located near Southpark Meadows from 11 p.m.-10 a.m. the nights of June 3 and 4 to demolish the 60-year-old overpass.
Traffic will be rerouted to the frontage roads in both directions, according to TxDOT. Southbound drivers can cross back onto I-35 near Onion Creek Parkway, while northbound drivers can return onto the main lanes near Slaughter Lane.
The demolition may be rescheduled to a later date if rain makes the work area unsafe, TxDOT spokesperson Kelli Reyna said.
The Slaughter Creek overpass will be closed for one year to make way for a new, wider bridge with a south-to-northbound turnaround to improve traffic flow and safety. The traffic signals at the intersection will be removed during construction.
Construction crews will also widen the southbound I-35 frontage roads to two lanes past the Slaughter Creek intersection, as well as adding safety lighting from Slaughter Lane to Onion Creek Parkway.
