St. David’s, a joint-venture partnership among the St. David’s Foundation, Georgetown Community Health Foundation and the Hospital Corp. of America, acquired the surgery center Aug. 3.
To revamp the facility and upgrade equipment, St. David's will invest more than $1 million along with its physician partners over the next year, according to a news release. St. David’s will also examine ways to expand the surgery center's core specialties, though the health care facility will continue to offer services including orthopedics, podiatry, general surgery and pain management.
The acquisition follows a $50 million expansion announced May 13 for St. David’s SAMC on Ben White Boulevard as part of more than $275 million in investments St. David’s HealthCare is making throughout the region. Construction on the SAMC expansion is expected to begin sometime within the next three years, according to Todd Steward, CEO of St. David’s SAMC.
“We are optimistic that the addition of this surgery center will increase our ability to meet the needs of patients in South Austin,” Steward said in a statement.
