Incumbent Ken Mercer will retain his seat representing District 5 on the State Board of Education.
A Republican Mercer earned 49.63 percent of the vote, according to the Texas Secretary of State. His challenger, Rebecca Bell-Metereau, a Democrat, earned 45.64 percent.
Libertarian Richardo Perkins fell behind with 4.72 percent of the vote.

Incumbent Ken Mercer continues to lead the race for the State Board of Education District 5 seat, with 84 precincts reporting so far out of 1,214 total.
Mercer has earned 50.02 percent of 621,885 total votes, including early votes.
Challenger Rebecca Bell-Metereau has earned 45.88 percent of the vote so far, and challenger Richardo Perkins has earned 4.08 percent.

Incumbent Ken Mercer leads the race for State Board of Education District 5, according to early voting totals from the Secretary of State.
The district contains Blanco, Caldwell, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Llano, Mason, San Saba, and parts of Bexar and Travis counties.
Mercer earned 59.3 percent of the vote so far, compared to challenger Rebecca Bell-Metereau's 37.14 percent. Libertarian Richardo Perkins has earned 3.55 percent of the vote, so far.
A total of 270,117 votes were cast in the race during early voting.
