Shoppers looking for back-to-school supplies can take advantage of the state's tax-free weekend. The Austin Ice Cream Festival also returns Saturday for its 11th annual celebration. See what other events are going on this weekend:

Shoppers save during sales tax-free weekend

The state law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes during this weekend only, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend, according to the Texas comptroller. www.comptroller.texas.gov/taxes

The Hive: VIP Tour Fundraising Event

The Hive is hosting a fundraising event with free beer from Shady Brew Company and coffee from Perky Perky Coffee, donuts, a karaoke party, arts and crafts, a silent auction, and more. Guests will also get a sneak-peek tour of the The Hive, Austin's first co-working space which will also offer child care, set to open this fall. Free, but donations will be accepted at the door.

The 11th annual festival presented by H-E-B features various activities, including a frozen treat sampling, savory local food trucks, competitions, a human foosball court, lawn games, a dunk tank, a rock wall, a water gun station, remote control boat racing, and an after-dark movie in the park.  Free (age 8 and under), $15-$25 (adults).

Youth Safety & Shooting training course

This training course is an introductory two-hour seminar on firearm safety and shooing sports for ages 12-18. The class is structured to teach firearm safety, basic marksmanship and firearm handling skills. Direct supervision of live-fire evolutions will help develop basic marksmanship skills and shooting confidence. Hands-on progressions safely teach firearm handling skills such as unloading, loading and safety checks. $99.

TRACE Hell Night

TRACE invites guests to the restaurant’s second annual Hell Night, benefiting local nonprofit the Sustainable Food Center. Paying homage to the original Hell Nights at Boston’s East Coast Grill, the evening features a menu that includes three different food stations as well as passed appetizers and a spicy signature cocktail. $35 per person.
