Whether it's spending the evening at a 1990s-throwback party or learning about the contributions Lady Bird Johnson made to the country, there are plenty of things for Southwest Austinites to do this weekend. Here are five events to consider in this weekend's plans:

W Austin Presents Rewind: Cue the '90s "Wayne’s World" Edition

W Austin Hotel and Residences is hosting a night of 1990s throwbacks at The Living Room Bar with drinks and snacks at '90s prices, a special "Bohemian Rhapsody" cocktail, and music by DJ Diggy Dutch. Those who attend will be entered to win tickets to Matthew Sweet at 3TEN Austin City Limits Live on July 21 and 22. The attendee with the best "Wayne's World"-inspired costume will win two tickets to Killer Queen (Queen tribute band) July 22 at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater. Free.

Carrying Hope: Hope Pack Drive

Carrying Hope, a nonprofit that provides foster children with clothes, school supplies, comfort items and toys, is accepting hope packs for Central Texas foster children this weekend. A hope pack is a backpack stuffed with new items geared toward meeting the needs of a foster child during their first 48 hours in a new home. The nonprofit encourages interested parties to visit their website to learn more about how to make a Hope Pack. Donations can be dropped off at the Browning Hangar at Mueller. Family-friendly activities will also be offered during the drop-off period for those interested in learning more about the organization. A Hope Pack on average costs $100 to create.

Work Out of the Day

Free your Fitness is hosting a community workout class in honor of Manchaca firefighter Sam Porter, who was involved in a motorcycle accident in June. Emmanuel Hernandez will lead the class. The event is free although donations are appreciated. All proceeds will support Porter and his family.

Luau Party

Elan Southpark Meadows is hosting a luau party for families and individuals interested in joining the retirement community. The day’s event includes Hawaiian-style food and entertainment. Lady Bird Day The Wildflower Center is hosting a free event Sunday to honor the legacy of its namesake, former first lady Lady Bird Johnson.[/caption]

Lady Bird Day

Each year, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center honors former first lady Lady Bird Johnson, its namesake and founder, for all she did for the nation’s environment. The community is invited to celebrate her environmental legacy and the legislation she inspired. Activities include story time, behind-the-scenes tour of the center and outdoor games. Free.
