El Chilito will host a grand opening for its first location in Southwest Austin Friday with a signature pig roast. Guests will be treated to pork tacos, chilled watermelon, limonadas, complimentary beer and sangria, a piñata, gift card raffles and live entertainment from DJ GirlFriend ATX. The new location will feature the signature menu items such as tacos, burritos, combination plates and more. Free.

The City of Austin Cultural Arts Division's monthly lecture series will explore symbolism. A panel of speakers—Terri St. Arnauld & Frank Yezer, JoAnna Johnson and John Seager—will hold a discussion about why artists incorporate symbolism into their work and how viewers can navigate it. Free.

The two-day event will feature family-friendly activities including a 5K run, a petting zoo, water wonderland activities and food and craft vendors at Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop. A fireworks display will conclude the festival. Entrance is free, but some activities may have costs associated.

July 4th at the Drive-In
Blue Starlite Drive-in will kick off the July 4th weekend with a double feature of "Independence Day" and "Jaws." The event will also include an on-screen high-definition digital fireworks show and a black-light party. The drive-in features authentic concessions, real drive-in movie speakers and space for 50 cars to enjoy cinematic programming ranging from indie films to cult classics to drive-in favorites. $7-35.
