Local nonprofit
Foundation Communities will provide free tax preparation for low- and moderate-income Central Texans starting Jan. 22, according to a recent press release. The 2018 tax season begins next week.
About 600 IRS-certified volunteers will assist in helping residents prepare and file their taxes. All volunteers have been trained to address questions about reporting health insurance on tax returns as required by the Affordable Care Act, the press release stated.
Households of four or less with an annual income of up to $55,000 per year are eligible for free tax preparation. A slightly higher income limit is set for families of five or more.
Six community tax centers offering day, evening and weekend hours will be open in north, south and east Austin, as well as Round Rock.
Walk-ins are accepted but appointments are available at participating sites.
