Local businesses around Austin will partner with Kids In a New Groove, an Austin-based non-profit that provides Texas youth in foster care with a one-to-one mentoring relationships through free and weekly music lessons, for its second annual Foster the Music Campaign throughout the month of May.

Starting May 1 participating businesses will contribute by donating a percentage of May sales, hosting special events or creating specialty items with a portion of proceeds benefiting Kids In a New Groove.

Local promotions supporting Kids In a New Groove include a specially-designed KING necklaces by Amanda Deer Jewelry, homemade biscuits from Olamaie, weekly shows hosted by Side Project Sundays at Kitty Cohen’s and donation-based classes at Black Swan Yoga and Bfree Yoga, a news release from Kids In a New Groove stated.

Other participants include People’s RX, Strait Music Company, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Amy’s Ice Cream, Charity Charge, Chili’s North Lamar, CrossFit Central, Eldorado Cafe, Fairmont Austin, Kendra Scott, Practice Yoga and Prime Pet Austin, according to the news release.

"Music has such a powerful impact on the lives of children, especially youth in foster care," said Clint Strait, a Kids In A New Groove board member and vice president of Strait Music Company. “I am continually impressed with Kids In A New Groove's mission to empower children and provide a platform in which music resonates and concrete life lessons are built. Foster the Music provides an opportunity for the community to come together and support KING as they positively influence the outcomes for youth in foster care."

Additional participating businesses and special events will be added regularly throughout the month. For the most updated list, visit www.kidsinanewgroove.org/foster-the-music.
