Certain Affinity, a local independent gaming development company, opened its new Northwest Austin headquarters to the public Friday morning.

The company was founded in 2006 by president and creative director Max Hoberman.

In 2014, Hoberman said the company was faced with a decision to renew its lease at its former location in Wells Branch. With the gaming industry and his company rapidly growing, Hoberman decided to seek out other options and found the new location, located at 7620 Guadalupe St., Austin, in a building that had been vacant for many years.

“We saw the potential in it and decided to buy the building,” Hoberman said. “We are super excited to be part of the neighborhood. This is a big accomplishment for us.”

The three-year construction and planning process is evidence of the company’s success and plan for the future, Patrick Bergman, vice president of business development said.

“At the old location, we were just busting at the seams,” Bergman said. “We were out of playtest space and we had no options for expansion. With our growth and aspirations, we need space so we could continue to grow in the future.”

Certain Affinity is well known in the gaming industry for its co-development of first-person shooter games such as Halo and Call of Duty. Now, that the company has its own space, they hope to start developing their own games while also maintaining the co-development aspect of the company.
