Two substantial South Austin construction projects on I-35 are approaching completion as the Texas Department of Transportation aims to finish work at Oltorf Street and between Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive over the summer.
According to an update by TxDOT, paving for the Oltorf project began in May and will continue through the end of June, with nightly lane closures to accommodate the last major element of the project.
For the Stassney Lane and William Cannon project, crews continue to work on shared-used paths along I-35 frontage roads and storm sewer systems. Work also continues to rebuild driveways that lead to frontage roads, according to TxDOT. Improvements to exit ramps for William Cannon and turn lanes for Stassney were completed in May.
Both projects aim to improve traffic flow in the South Austin area along the interstate. The $42.6 million Oltorf project began in February 2017 and included the construction of a new Oltorf bridge over the highway as well as new elevated ramps onto I-35. The construction between Stassney and William Cannon is part of a $78.8 million project that has reconstructed both the William Cannon and Stassney bridges and has improved ramps on and off I-35 over the past four years.
