Cali Tacos Please, a food truck from Los Angeles, California that rolls street tacos from whole meat rather than pre-cut, has made Austin its permanent home.
The truck is now located in the parking lot of Crockett Center, 5312 Menchaca Road, in South Austin, near Quack’s Bakery.
“We serve street tacos so they're not big tacos, but they're flavorful with corn tortilla and whole meat. We don't use pre-cut meat, we chop it down and you can taste the difference,” Alejandro Garcia, who co-owns the business with his wife Jazmine, said.
The couple who came down to Austin on vacation and fell in love with it decided to introduce Cali Tacos to the city at the annual SXSW festival this March and got a positive response
Painted in black and white next to the window on the truck, the menu lists four main items of which the “Sumo” is the most popular. Alejandro makes it with an all-cheese tortilla on a hot flat top and assembles refried beans, a choice of protein, onion, cilantro, sour cream and Cotija, a Mexican dry cheese on it. Their large-size sharable nachos served with the spicy, red salsa are also a favorite, Jazmine, who quit her full-time job in healthcare to focus solely on the business, said.
The taco truck is open Tues.-Sat. 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. or until sellout. The couple kept the recipes exactly like what they served in California. 323-304-7253. @cali_tacosplease
