Dripping Springs officials approve $3M road maintenance plan

The plan outlines improvements by fiscal year:

• FY 2026-27: Grand Prairie Circle, Grand Prairie Circle (loop) and Goodnight Trail
• FY 2027-28: Broken Lance Drive
• FY 2028-29: Oak Springs Drive, Bob White Cove, Springlake Drive and Founders Ridge (entrance)
• FY 2029-30: Neighborhood streets (The Woods, Springwood, Blue Ridge, Hidden Springs) and Arrowhead Boulevard
• FY 2030-31: Neighborhood streets (Founders Ridge, Legacy Trails, Cortaro), Sports Park Road, Sportsplex Drive, EMS Drive and Peabody Place

During FY 2026-27 through FY 2028-29, the majority of road projects will be mill-and-overlay, a process that removes old asphalt and replaces it. From FY 2029-30 onward, the city will focus on preventive maintenance measures, which are less costly than milling and overlay. The total estimated budget for the plan is approximately $3 million, according to the plan presentation.

Council member Travis Crow expressed concerns over financial constraints and suggested stretching the plan over seven years instead of five to save costs.

“That’s kind of the whole point of preventative maintenance, is to keep us out of this position,” Maintenance Director Riley Sublett said. “We were doing $4 [per] square yard, and if we wait five years, then we’re doing $40 [per] square yard for mill and overlay. So that is something to consider.”
