Founders Day is hosted by the city of Dripping Springs and the Founders Day Commission. The commission is composed of representatives of community organizations.
All proceeds from the festival benefit community organizations such as local nonprofits, churches, youth groups, charities, parks and school programs.
History
Founders Day celebrates the founding of Dripping Springs by the Pound, Moss and Wallace families in the 1850s. These three families are credited as among the first to settle in what is now known as Dripping Springs, named in 1857 by a member of the Moss family, according to the Dripping Springs Historic Preservation Commission.
Founders Day weekend
The three-day celebration is kicked off April 28 by a parade on Mercer Street at 6:30 p.m.
This year’s parade theme is “Founders 34, Celebrations Galore,” and all participants must adhere to the theme. There will be an overall best entry prize and awards for second, third and fourth place.
Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and line down the street to see the parade. Some bleacher seating will be available.
After the parade, the weekend will consist of music, entertainment, vendors and a carnival. Admission is free to the festival.
