Dripping Springs ISD officials released grandfathering rules for students, following approval of new attendance zones for the 2025-26 academic year.

Families must submit their grandfathering transfer application by Feb. 19 in order to be considered. Families will be notified if their application was accepted no later than May 1, according to the district’s website. Proof of residency must be provided in the application.

Elementary grandfathering guidelines

Students who will be in fifth grade can request to stay at their current school for the 2025-26 academic year.

Rising fourth graders who have been rezoned can request to remain at their currently zoned campus for the next year. However, the application is based on a lottery system to ensure schools do not reach overcapacity, district officials said.

Fifth grade student transfers will get priority. There are a limited number of spaces available for fourth grade students, following all considerations for fifth graders.

Younger siblings are also eligible to grandfather while their older sibling remains at their current campus. Once the older sibling completes elementary school, the younger sibling must attend their newly-zoned campus.

Middle school grandfathering guidelines

Rising seventh and eighth graders who have been rezoned to Sycamore Springs Middle School can request to remain at Dripping Springs Middle School.

Younger siblings can grandfather with their older sibling during the time the older sibling is at DSMS. Once the older sibling has completed middle school, the younger sibling must attend their newly-zoned middle school.

One more thing

The new attendance zones introduce the sixth and newest elementary school in the district, Wildwood Springs Elementary.

The district will not provide transportation for grandfathered students or their siblings, district officials said.

Grandfathering transfers are subject to district approval and are only granted one year at a time.
