DSISD officials will receive $19,500 from the county, allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act, according to district documents.

The funds will be used to train staff in emergency response that will be given by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation, a nonprofit that provides crisis response training to organizations.

In a letter to the Hays County Office of Emergency Services, DSISD Director of Safety Sirenna Cumberland said the reunification training is “crucial” for school staff and first responders.

Quote of note

“Safety of our students is paramount in everything we do, and [it is] the responsibility of this body to ensure that,” board member Rob McClelland said March 25. “We do these things now so when the unexpected happens we are prepared.”
